My Story

My name is Carrie Light. I’m 52, and I have been in the fitness industry for 35 years. My life has been inspired by my mother who raised 6 children, yet somehow always found time to take care of herself, and was a very physically fit person. Health was very important to Mom, and I remember running with her when I was 11 years old. Mom became a group fitness instructor which was always inspiring to me, and I knew at a very young age what I wanted to do with my life.

Growing up I played almost everything I could sign up for, including soccer, water polo, swimming, figure skating, gymnastics, trampoline, and track & field. My biggest success was in springboard diving, were I was a B.C. Champion. I truly loved sport and I knew I wanted to be in the field of fitness.

At the age of 17 I got involved with teaching group fitness classes, which became a stepping-stone into the business of Personal Training, Athletic Coaching, and Rehab. I went back to school to complete my certifications in personal training/supervisors for fitness. I have since completed the CFAPLA at UBC, NSCA Certification, Level 1 and 2 of Exos Athletes Performance Coaching, Cory Holly’s Sports Nutrition Certification, Medical Exercise Specialist Course, Info Fit’s Rehabilitation courses for Spine, Hip Knee Ankle, Elbow Wrist & Shoulder, Soft Tissue Release, Twist Athletic Coaching Levels 1 through 5, plus CPR and FFA. I continue to stay on top of my education and on top of industry ideas, innovations and tools.

My mom and was actively teaching up until the age of 74; she resigned from teaching shortly after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. While she is no longer able to make decisions and function in life like she use to, she is physically able and mobile (and continues to walk regularly!), for which I am so very thankful. Her commitment to being active has made for a much greater quality of life despite her illness, compared to others in similar circumstances.

There is no reason why we have to be invalid before our time – whatever the age or circumstances – and it is never to late to start! Age is just a number. Your body has remarkable restorative capabilities if you give it a chance. Staying fit and healthy with good balance, mobility and stability is so important to aging well. And it makes you feel on top of the world!

It is my passion and purpose to help people like you to connect with your “inner-athlete”; to help you dig deep and find within yourself the drive to be the best “you” you can be at any age.
