As a woman in my fifties, I am intimately acquainted with the physiological changes that occur in our bodies as we age. Changes in body composition (lean muscle tissue vs. fat), bone density and hormonal variations mean that not only do we lose “functional” fitness if we are complacent, but it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain the status quo, or to dig ourselves out of a hole if we have let our health slide.
